Jaspers - 3/4 @ CDU

with Sticks and Twines, Lee Curtis

jaspers

Tallahassee locals Jaspers are bringing their memorable melodies and brilliance in simplicity to Club Downunder on March 4 for their CD release show. Their combination of chiming guitars and earnest vocals never fails to satisfy listeners, and with fantastic songs like “Barcelona” and “Grandghost,” it’s clear to see why Jaspers are gaining recognition throughout Tallahassee. Featuring the rustic and homespun vocals of Jeremy Raisik and Kily Bobbitt, Jaspers has opened up for Bowerbirds twice.

Opening the show are Sticks and Twines and Lee Curtis!

Fruit Bats/Danielson - 3/15 @ CDU

with Ortolan, Ben + Vesper

fruit

Fruit Bats are playing Club Downunder on Monday, March 15th! These feel-good folk rockers have released three albums since their 2001 debut, Echolocation, including 2009’s well-received The Ruminant Band. Leader Eric D. Johnson’s lilting melodies, breezy atmospheres, and mostly acoustic instrumentation recall 70s AM warmth.

Supporting Fruit Bats is Danielson, a rotating ensemble of players led by charismatic frontman Daniel Smith. What began as a senior thesis project at Rutgers has steadily evolved into a beloved, prolific, and uncompromisingly unique recording outlet. For 2006’s excellent Ships, Smith wrangled in over twenty collaborators, including members of Why?, Deerhoof, and Sufjan Stevens.

Ortolan and Ben+Vesper, more of Danielson’s many cohorts, will be touring in support of the aforementioned groups.

Little Dragon - 3/17 @ CDU

dragon

Gothenburg, Sweden’s Little Dragon are playing Club Downunder on Wednesday, March 17th! Always tastefully arranged, Little Dragon’s music ranges from playful and sexy to pensive and soulful. Singer Yukimi Nagano’s understated, sultry vocals perfectly compliment the band’s minimal electronic soundscapes. You’ll likely be hearing more about them in the coming months, thanks to their contributions to Gorillaz’ latest record, Plastic Beach.

Cursive - 3/24 @ The Moon

cur

Cursive, Omaha’s Post-hardcore veterans, are playing The Moon on March 24th! One of Saddle Creek Records’ flagship acts, Cursive have released six full-length albums and multiple singles over the course of their fifteen year career. Their sound has greatly evolved since their first record, but Cursive has always been defined by frontman Tim Kasher’s vitriolic vocal delivery and candid lyricism.

Local favorites Curious Animals will open with what will surely be a memorable set. Dynamic, volatile and unhinged, vocalist Corey Driscoll recalls legendary frontmen of years past, most notably the Jesus Lizard’s David Yow and Andy Falkous of Mclusky/Future of the Left fame.
